With spring just around the corner drive a little further up the Bells Line of Road to Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah for the annual Daffodil Festival. Held from the 24 August – 1 September it’s a great time to enjoy the garden and see the Daffodils in full bloom. Entry to the Botanic Garden is free.

Penelope Oates: Alternate View

Penelope Oates: Alternate View

Exhibition runs Saturday 27 July - Sunday 8 September Saturday 31 August 2019 Free

Event details

Alternate Views explores Penelope Oates’ ongoing fascination with aspects of the landscape both physically and emotionally close to the artist in the Hawkesbury and Lower Blue Mountains regions of NSW.
The landscape is the platform from which the artist moves into a subjectively visual world of suggestions and feelings about places experienced and remembered. Oates’ work is quintessentially romantic, as she selectively edits from her observations to heighten the drama of the landscapes which are deliberately devoid of even the slightest hint of human presence.
More recently the artist has felt the desire to include visual references to humanity with the introduction of recognisable objects and introduced species of animals.
For Oates the landscape is not simply there to replicate but to be interpreted and re-interpreted thereby providing the viewer with innumerable ‘alternate views’.

What We Have To Say

What We Have To Say

Exhibition runs Saturday 27 July - Sunday 8 September Saturday 31 August 2019 Free

Event details

Artists: Cigdem Aydemir, Cybele Cox, Jumaadi, Kieran Butler, Paris Norton, Rachel Haynes.
A timely exhibition, exploring creativity and the feminine perspective. What we have to say will look at narrative, ideas, dialogue and aesthetic expression of women artists in contemporary Australia.
Painting, photography, ceramics, works on paper, sculpture, installation, fibre.
The underlying premise of What We Have to Say is about questioning. The exhibition asks you to question/consider the ways in which you see, understand and experience contemporary art and why to situate the artists in this exhibition and the creative narratives they articulate in the centre rather than the margins reflects and celebrates the richer, more complex, truer picture of an Australian cultural landscape.
