Start the day in Windsor at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery located in the Deerubbin Centre (Top Floor) George Street Windsor presents a variety of exhibitions, activities and events for all ages.
The Gallery curates a large proportion of exhibitions in house including touring exhibitions from regional to state galleries displaying what our region and country has to offer.
The Hawkesbury Remakery is a store that combines art and craft together with a large focus on sustainability and promoting local artists. Within the retail space of the store local artists can sell products that they have created, upcycled or repurposed. The Remakery has a large focus on providing a space for local artists to share and profit from their works as well as teach other people art/craft skills with different workshops run throughout the year for people to learn or refine their skills. Showcasing a wide range of mediums including ceramics, felting, artworks, weaving, woodwork, metal work and so much more!
Peter Browne is an iconic Australian artist who is known for his unique style that centres around Australian wildlife and Folklore humour. He is well known internationally, having done exhibitions in a variety of countries and is mentioned in some Australian Guidebooks. While his Desert studio is his more well-known Peter Browne has a studio right here in the Hawkesbury! Located in Windsor on Kable Street, the studio is hard to miss with their emu waiting to greet you.
Afterwards pop into Richmond to Piggery Lane Studio and Gallery is located within the Western Sydney University campus with a rich history connected to Hawkesbury Agriculture College. Piggery lane studio not only part of Hawkesbury community arts workshops but is home to six artists as both their studio and a gallery to display their works of a variety of mediums.
Head up the mountain for some lunch…
If you have worked up a hunger while touring all of these beautiful galleries why not visit The Village Kitchen Kurrajong. Not only can you enjoy a meal made from locally sourced and seasonal produce you can also continue to marvel at the talent within the area as the Village Kitchen displays local artists within its restaurant that are available for purchase.
As well as the many galleries and stores where you can discover the talents of local artisans, the Hawkesbury also hosts a variety of markets throughout the year, from Sunday markets in Windsor to specialised Christmas markets. Be sure to visit the Hawkesbury Visitor Information Centre to pick up a map to help plan your trip, discover what markets are happening during your stay, and collect the Artists and Artisans factsheet for even more ideas on where to see local art, meet the artists, and purchase their work. In late August, visitors can also discover the Artists and Artisans Trail, a special opportunity to explore studios, galleries, and creative spaces throughout the region while meeting the makers behind the works.
